About Mabel’s Five & Dime

On the 18th August 2010 after an 3 year illness my amazing, crazy mum passed away, also on this day I was made redundant from my job as a recruitment consultant in hospitality, so all round a pretty crap day!

I decided that I wanted to change my life & did not want to get back into the 9-5 daily grind & commute, so I took some time out to evaluate what I should do with my life. I started doing some small crafting projects – Tea Cup Candles, Vintage Cake Stands & Handmade Luggage Label Gift Tags & attending some small local fairs. Then in April 2011 The West Norwood Feast monthly market started (http://westnorwoodfeast.com) & as my other half, Mr M has his shop “Maddison’s” (Twitter – @Maddisons_Shop) in West Norwood, this was the perfect opportunity to have a regular stall & really turn a hobby in a business.

To cut a long story short, I started getting involved in Mr M’s house clearances, by taking all the interesting, vintage girlie stuff that Mr M really had no interest in!

And so Mabel’s Five & Dime was born & I have not looked back since.

P.S. Mabel’s Five & Dime was named after my beautiful dog “Mabel” & is not my name!!! For the record I’m called Michelle. x

The infamous Mabel.
